When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled. And he said, 'Where have you laid him?' They said to him, 'Lord, come and see.' Jesus wept. So the Jews said, 'See how he loved him!'
Before Jesus raised Lazarus from the tomb, He did something astonishing.
He possessed the divine power to speak life into decay in an instant. He knew that in moments, Lazarus would step out of the tomb alive. Yet when He saw Mary and Martha sobbing in anguish, Jesus wept.
He did not scold them for crying. He did not tell them that grief was incompatible with faith. He entered into the bitter agony of human loss and wept real tears.
If you are hurting today, know this: Jesus does not stand aloof from your suffering. The Healer of your soul weeps with you.

A Prayer in Tears
Lord Jesus, thank You that You are not a distant, detached king, but a compassionate Savior who knows the taste of tears. When grief overwhelms me, sit with me in the darkness. Comfort my weeping heart and hold me in Your tender embrace.
